You can find them stashed in the monthly coffee boxes, or drop by either the Silver Lake or West Hollywood locations for a full espresso menu, neon-lit settings and, of course, whatever the daily selection of these faves might be. Look for owner (and former biochemist) Jack Benchakul behind the counter, painstakingly preparing drinks like the Thai iced offee made with cold brew, Thai spice and palm sugar, or the fan-favorite vanilla pandan coffee—he's even launched a new line of canned coffee and tea drinks. Both coffee shops roast their own beans and make all alternative milks and syrups in-house, for quality you can taste in every sip. This charming Historic Filipinotown café offers all-day fare that's worth lingering over—already an easy feat, given the free Wi-Fi and creative coffee there, too. Small-batch, seasonal pastries like passion fruit pie with graham cracker crust; pecan and caramel coffee cake; and blackberry rhubarb galettes are so good you won't want to share, and go great with pour-over coffee and specials like vanilla-and-orange cappuccinos. Looking for something more substantial? A casual menu of rice bowls, breakfast sandwiches and toasts should do the trick, and if you want to bring the magic home, Doubting Thomas has its own blend of beans—as well as house-made concentrates for matcha, chai and beyond—which you can buy on-site. Endorffeine isn’t your cutesy, sun-dappled, Instagram-driven coffee shop—not that there isn’t a place for those, especially in L.A.
HOW AN ACT OF SURVIVAL CREATED A SPACE OF INCLUSIVITY.
They’ve been making converts in Manhattan Beach and El Segundo ever since with their premium two bean-blend espresso they developed with Dillanos Coffee Roasters that tastes of candied pecans and dried fruit. House-baked pastries and bread, grass-fed butter and ORA King salmon sustainably farmed in their homeland don’t hurt either. Ashbary's is a wonderful little coffee house tucked away in a corner of Willow Springs, and I absolutely adore going there. This LGBT-strong coffee house hosts live music on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights with Wednesdays being reserved for open mic. These down under wonders have been causing quite a stir since they relocated from Sydney.
Wheelchair accessible seating,
All four cafés also have Wi-Fi, charging outlets and at least a few couches, and the Redondo Beach flagship has the most space and outdoor seating. In 2018, Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan first opened in the historically Black neighborhood of View Park-Windsor Hills, hoping to help locals connect, caffeinate and continue the climb towards success. Since then, after being featured on HBO's Insecure, the coffee shop is now backed by showrunner Issa Rae, who's helped Hilltop expand to Inglewood, Eagle Rock and Downtown. And Eagle Rock locations have plenty of tables and a few charging outlets apiece, while the Inglewood shop’s lofted couch seating is more conducive to casual morning or afternoon hangs.

Their healthy Australian is showing in the reputable culinary program. Think savory hand pies, roast lamb sandwiches, and black rice porridge with pickled okra. Brewing to order on Olympic in Sawtelle Japantown since 1997, this funky little multi-roaster coffee bar uses the siphon method for smooth full-bodied cups with minimal bitterness. The counter looks like a chemistry experiment but the red-walled shop is a pleasant place to lounge, especially when they have an art show on.
Then it’s off to the Roasting Works Intelligentsia runs, which are often located in the cities they service to ensure maximum freshness. While the coffee quality is consistent across the board, the cafes vary wildly. Hollywood is sleek while Pasadena looks like a funky industrial loft. Kiwis invaded the South Bay in 2011, bringing with them their fervor for flat whites and knowledge of New Zealand coffee practices.
The all-day menu here features a flexible kind of global cuisine, not to mention a handful of truly good coffee-based mocktails exclusive to that space. Locations are available for takeout and online pre-order. Formerly a private home, Aroma Coffee & Tea Company transformed itself into a darling café where you can grab a coffee, slice of cake or full-on meal. The expansive coffee and tea menu caters to everyone, from the espresso lover to the chai-latte enthusiast. Inside the cafe, a library-like atmosphere—complete with fireplace—makes it feel like you’re chilling at home, while outside is more casual with a back patio and some tables on the front sidewalk.

Looking for a lunch spot after hiking nearby, I came across this spot. Cute little spot with hippy type vibes.
Coffee, and lots of it, preferably paired with a quick breather at one of the city's best coffee shops. Whether it’s paired with a fantastic brunch or enjoyed as midday break from work, a good java spot is as necessary for Angelenos a solid neighborhood taco stand. From the beach boardwalk views to the bearded, tattooed or both baristas, the taxidermy to the vinyl sound system, a secret menu hidden behind the namesake’s photo to the pricey offerings that can be Irished up at the bar next door (same owners), the tiny coffee ground encapsulates Venice Beach culture in a nutshell. The foam art is top-notch as the dude who runs the show dominated the Latte Art World Championship three times.
They utilize various preparation methods and a deep roster of roasters including Sightglass, Slaye, Reuben Hills and George Howell at their two branches (Fairfax and downtown). They move a lot of their homeland’s drinks of choice — flat whites and long blacks. PCP also doesn’t drop the ball on food.
Well for Mad Lab, one of Downtown's top roasters, the name says it all. At the Hollywood window, simply stroll up and order from the menu or let whoever's behind the counter whip something up special for you while you nosh on fresh Clark Street pastries. Once responsible for a popular espresso catering pop-up, the brothers Morales went brick and mortar in 2015, opening a ceramic-tiled, high ceilinged, hipster hang in Highland Park. Since then, they’ve been up to their eyeballs in a rotating selection of roasters like Heart and 49th Parallel, matcha, milks, fresh pastries, pea tendril-covered avocado toast and fried chicken-n-waffles dripping with blueberry maple sauce and crème fraiche. Even though there’s lots of bench seating, window alcoves and a small patio out back, arrive early to snag a spot on weekends as it gets crazy crowded. Be prepared to disconnect — there's no Wi-Fi.
